Mr. N., a flying instructor from Ulm, was involved in a fatal crash near Eichstätt. Amongst other people killed were his parents-in-law. He therefore left behind a wife, and a two-year-old son as well as his wife's brother who was still in full-time education.

We provided legal and financial advice and put the family in touch with friends of our Foundation who are specially trained in counseling the bereaved.

Since then, the family's financial worries have been resolved as Ms. N. was able to complete her training as a doctor and found an employment that suits her family situation.

The BFU official accident investigation prompted the Mayday Foundation to contact Dieter Thomas, a test pilot from Fürstenfeldbruck and founding supporter of our foundation, with the request to examine all the available documentation.

Mr. Thomas presented his own findings to the LBA and to the company holding the license for the BO 207. These findings differed significantly from those reached by the official enquiry.

As the company declined to accept a new version of the BO 207 operating manual as proposed by the Mayday Stiftung, we got in touch with all owners of this model of aircraft and informed them of Mr. Thomas's findings. These were also the subject of an article in the "aerokurier"-magazine (12/99).

Our support work for the family has since been brought to a successful conclusion.
